Make a homemade spectroscope with a few simple materials and explore the spectrum of different light sources. You'll see all kinds of rainbows! This science

Making a spectroscope with rainbow glasses is very simple. We use most of the same materials and techniques as we did for the CD spectroscope. Click on photo for larger picture We need a cereal box, some aluminum tape, two single edged razor blades, and a pair of rainbow glasses. You can substitute aluminum foil and glue for the aluminum tape. Made a spectroscope using a DVD as a diffraction grating and 3d printing the case. Very pleased with the result!

A spectroscope, much like a glass prism, splits the white light into all of its component colors, pointing each colored beam in a different direction. When you point  A spectroscope is an instrument used to observe the atomic spectrum of a given material.

A spectroscope is an instrument used to observe the atomic spectrum of a given material. Because atoms can absorb or emit radiation only at certain specific wavelengths defined by electron transitions, the spectrum of each type of atom is directly related to its structure. There are two classifications of atomic spectra: absorption and emission.

At one end of the spectroscope is a square film of material that acts like a prism. The film is called a diffraction grating. It is made by putting thousands of grooves on a plastic film.

There is also a slit, where the light enters, and a telescope-like focuser. The heart of the spectroscope — the component which breaks light into its component colors, is either a prism or a diffraction grating. A spectrograph is an instrument that separates light by its wavelengths and records this data. A spectrograph typically has a multi-channel detector system or camera that detects and records the spectrum of light.

The spectrograph splits or disperses the  Dr Andrew Steele shows us how to make a spectrometer, a device used by scientists to analyse light, using a cereal box and a CD. Credits.

Over the years, many amateur astronomers have gotten good results with the Star Spectroscope. Our RSpec software works fine with any spectra, including those from a Star Spectroscope grating. 2021-02-12 · Types of Spectroscope and How They Work Prisms split light by refraction; the resulting spectrum is measured by the spectroscope.
